Mindshop Business Advisor Bulletin - May 2008
THIS EDITION:
John Quinn – Hole18 Ltd, Alloa , United Kingdom

Q. Tell us a bit about your company and your role?
I own Hole18 Ltd which as you might be able to guess is focussed on providing Growth and Profit solutions to golf and golf tourism related businesses in the UK including golf clubs, resorts, tour operators, accommodation providers and local councils with municipal golf courses.
I also have a majority interest in a UK based Sportsgrounds Maintenance Company called Greenmaster Ltd which is a real life business renovation project for me every day!
Q. Why did you decide to join Mindshop?
In a word: “fear”. I was afraid I was missing something in the services I offered and that I would miss out something glaringly obvious in the facilitation process with clients. The Mindshop Process has given me a great foundation to build my service offering on. The tools, resources, training and of course the network are the bricks and mortar that build on the process to provide a rock solid structure to any business. I am totally confident that my clients are getting everything they need and that nothing has been missed in the facilitation process.
Q. Most valuable Mindshop Tool you have used?
The tool I get the best reaction from is Magic Wand. I have often started working with a new client by asking the team to tell me all of the current issues in the business. This is usually a real "cards on the table" moaning session about all the things that are wrong. We then break for coffee to build the tension a bit further. Then I calm it all down and give it a real positive focus by introducing Magic Wand. The effect is sometimes even emotional for clients as they suddenly start to picture what things could be like.
Q. Most successful outcome using Mindshop?
We received a testimonial this year from a client who turned around their business from a substantial loss the previous year to an increase in turnover of 33% which he attributed to our work.
Q. Most beneficial part of being involved with Mindshop?
The passion the Mason family have for the business and the strength this gives the Network has huge benefits for everyone. The Mindshop “Value to Others” philosophy is genuine and you can see that in action everyday on the members’ discussion area.
Q. In 5 years time, I want to be...
In 5 years time, I’d like to be the lead guitarist in the E Street Band, but will more likely be working on business renovation projects.

Online Training Courses - 240 attendees and 3118 worksheets in 12 months
Following their successful release in March 2007 Mindshop’s seven online training courses have had a major impact on the fast-tracked learning of Mindshop members as well as their clients / team members. Over the past 12 months 240 people have commenced an online training course with:
- Leadership Development course - 14 attendees
- Marketing and Sales course - 43 attendees
- Consulting Facilitator course - 20 attendees
- Personal Improvement course - 53 attendees
- Business Improvement course - 87 attendees
- Team Development course- 4 attendees
- Continuous Improvement course - 19 attendees
A total of 3118 individual worksheets were submitted and the various training videos on offer in each workshop were viewed over 3000 times as part of the process of attendees completing these courses online.
This is again a demonstration of the power of using Online Training to fast-track the learning for members at a time that is suitable for them instead of waiting months to attend a face-to-face course. Best of all the courses are FREE to complete by all members as part of the standard value proposition.
We look forward to continuing to evolve the technology used in these courses and encourage more people to package the courses into client offerings and use to training their clients / staff and most importantly themselves.
To access any courses or to register clients / staff please go to the ‘Training’ tab in your online member resource centre.

NEW 2008 Mindshop GPS Diagnostic Released

The original Mindshop GPS Diagnostic was released in 2005 and has now been used successfully by thousands of businesses around the world to assist in pin-pointing key business / personal issues and providing scope to the financial benefits of these being solved.
One of the main benefits of the GPS Diagnostic is that it allows Facilitators to have a conversation (scope) with clients as to why the single $5000 workshop they may have asked for alone cannot solve the $1 million problem they have identified. Instead they may need a 12 month implementation package which could be charged to the client at $50,000 p/a. Thus a 10 fold increase in what you originally felt the client would pay to engage you.
We trust you find this upgraded version of the GPS diagnostic valuable in your front-line advisory activities with existing and potential clients.
10 Steps to Tripling your Sales - Article by David Duffy

In marketing what gives you a real return?
The answer to the question is going to be different for every business. As we are constantly told by the high profile gurus, "Stop marketing at your own risk. Just get out there and promote your business and value your customers."
Here are the ten steps to tripling your sales:
1.Profile your customers. Most businesses can tell you how many products they sold and what the products do. Very few of them actually know who their customers are.
2. Segment your customers. This is a difficult process in most businesses because the information has not been collected. Consider issues such as customers income, location, industry background, sales volume, etc.
3. Identify your "A" Class Clients. Rank all your customers. A small percentage of your clients (between 20% and 30%) will be responsible for the majority of your profit. These customers are usually regular purchasers, with a high value per purchase, and you enjoy dealing with them.
4. Identify the Situation facing them. In order to understand future market trends, you must understand the changes occurring to the environment of these clients. What is happening for them? Are new competitors, new Government legislation, increasing costs, new technology, etc. affecting them? Consider a survey of your customers to capture this information.
5. Identify their Problems. Talk to your customers and find out about their challenges and problems. Listen to their concerns. Try and get them to be specific about the issues they face.
6. Get them to quantify the Implications. Discuss with them what would ultimately happen if they do not find a solution to these problems. Would they face financial difficulties, longer working hours, or greater stress? Here you are trying to understand what would motivate them to change to you.
Do you forget all these steps and just assume that price is the motivator?
7. Create the Need for your Services. Your customers should now be asking for your help. You have the opportunity to offer a solution. They will be more interested in you and your company rather than how much you charge.
8. Outline the Costs and Benefits of your Services. Completing a Cost Benefit Analysis makes it simple for your customer to make a decision. The clearer the benefits, the less the issue about price.
9. Offer a Guarantee. Every business informally provides a guarantee, but very few have defined it, and told their customers! The clearer you are about your guarantee the easier it is for you to limit your exposure.
10. Ask for the Sale. This is the step that everyone puts off. Your customer is expecting you to ask for the sale. When you don't ask for it they think that you cannot successfully meet their need.
Practicing, testing and scripting are essential. These steps provide you with the content of any future advertising and promotion.
